Vegan MoFo: Cookbook Wishlist

27 Oct

I’m on the layoff diet, not for food, but for shopping.  Vegan MoFo is not helping this at all!   I’m drooling over all the amazing food porn I’m seeing from new cookbooks!  So many!  Remember the days when we all waited half a year for the next vegan cookbook to come out?  Now have so many options, it’s dangerous.  We have to sift through the tried and true vegan chefs that we all love and the ones who scam recipes off everyone, eat honey, but still peddle veganism.

Vegan MoFo has been the best advertisement for the good cookbooks.  All the amazing food porn and glowing reviews have just cemented my already forming wishlist.  I’m just going to drool publicly, today.

First off, Vegan Pie in the Sky!  Any book written by Isa & Terry is a book I need to own.  I was a little wimpy at first about making pie, because it’s apparently not for the lazy, but after looking at all of this Pumpkin Cheesecake, this Strawberry Balsamic Pie, and thiiissssssssss Old Fashioned Chocolate Pudding Pie.

I may have just stopped typing right here and made that chocolate pie.  If that isn’t totally crazy. (I’ll blog about it tomorrow.)

A good friend of mine that I’ve known since high school went vegan completely out of the blue a little over a year ago.  Her husband used to hunt!  I’m not even kidding.  He’s nearly veg himself, as well as their little boy.  I love stories like this!  Well, they made a pilgrimage to Portland a few months ago, and she bought Vegan Diner and has not stopped bragging about it since then.  She’s obsessed.  I’m not surprised, it is by Julie Hasson after all.  MoFo blogs have me super excited to make this roast, and this cobbler!!

I’m a huge, huge fan of my crockpot and am always looking for new ways to use it.  It works out so well for me to be able to throw food in it in the mornings and not go crazy on nights we’re out late with Shae’s soccer stuff!  I’ve heard such great things about Kathy Hester’s The Vegan Slow Cooker.   I think I’m going to give myself a little preview by trying out this Chick’n Seitan recipe this week.  Just look at this Pumpkin and White Bean Lasagna!

I could go on and on with this list, but these are definitely the first three cookbooks I’ll be buying when the Layoff Shopping Diet ends!

I was on a buying ban, but I got Vegan Diner from the library. And within a week I bought it. I got it in the mail before my library copy was due, so basically every meal I’ve eaten in the last two weeks has come from that cookbook. SO worth it!!
